About MYCA

Youth can play a major role in localization of climate actions under Majhi Vasundhara, State Action Plan for Climate Change and Mission LiFE.  Maharashtra Youth for Climate Action (MYCA) is a youth programme initiated by UNICEF Maharashtra and Centre for Environment Education, Pune. MYCA provides three levels of youth engagement for climate change i.e. training on climate action planning, climate action on the field and its reporting, and climate advocacy and policy. MYCA activities in 2022 and 2023 included:

• In-person youth workshops, organised at Osmanabad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Mumbai. These districts have rapid and slow onsets of disasters like flood, cyclone, landslides, and drought. Youth have recommendations to put forward in policies related to climate-affected sectors such as waste management and water conservation, based on their volunteer work and experience.
• Participation of some MYCA members in Local Conference of Youth 2022, organised by CEE, WWF India, and Brahmakumaris, to prepare youth submissions to UNFCCC COP 27 at Egypt. 
• MYCA Fellowship, in which the first cohort of five MYCA Fellows have taken up their own local climate initiatives. 
• Online course on Climate Change. 
• Maha Youth Climate Conference organized at Mumbai on 21-23 January 2023,  and launch of the MYCA Youth Statement. 

MYCA is a step to creating a representation of youth from Maharashtra advocating for climate action.
